For any business, running out of stock is a frustrating situation. Customers tend to lose interest in products that are sold out, and our advertisements cannot generate enough purchase conversions. Although many customers still pre-order new colorways, sold-out stock remains a persistent issue.
The reason for this is quite challenging. Unlike most other glove brands, the skeletal pattern on the back of our gloves requires 40 rounds of printing, which is one of the main reasons so many customers love the look of the REAPER gloves. Everyone appreciates the texture, which brings a sense of joy to an otherwise dull task. However, what many people don’t realize is that silicone printing needs to fully dry after each round before the next layer can be applied. This process also requires the printing workshop to maintain low humidity and an optimal temperature. If it rains or there’s a sudden drop or rise in temperature, it becomes impossible to ensure the quality of the printing. Each of the 40 rounds of printing must dry completely before the next round can proceed. The ten hours required for printing significantly limits our production capacity. While we can print multiple pieces in a batch, each round of printing requires quality checks and drying time, making the process extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive.
As a result, we find ourselves running out of stock within about half a month after each batch arrives. Each time, we only receive a little over a thousand pairs, and many informed customers even buy several pairs at once as backups. This is not a case of artificial scarcity marketing—selling more would certainly be more profitable for us. However, the production capacity for different products varies. Some mold-based products can be mass-produced in the tens of thousands each day, but our gloves are still almost entirely handmade, including hand printing and hand assembly. If we didn’t need such intricate 3D printing, our production capacity could increase several times. But customers wouldn’t like the gloves without that rich texture, which is why, even with many brands copying our design, customers are still willing to spend over $40 for our product.
